“Menstrual disorders” is an umbrella term used to describe periods that deviate from a 28-day cycle with 4-7 days of moderate bleeding – ie, changing a tampon every 3-4 hours.
If your periods last a long time, are irregular or marked by heavy flow, you may have an underlying imbalance that can be identified. Causes include hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems, fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease, etc.
