Osteoarthritis

From a naturopathic view point, arthritis is not inevitable. The current belief is that arthritis is just part of the natural aging process, a so-called wear and tear disease. In direct contract with this perception, it is possible for joints to regenerate with diet modification, hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation and acupuncture. The chronic use of NSAIDs (including aspirin and ibuprofen) is not without side effects, and only serves to cover up the symptoms of arthritis without addressing the underlying cause.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own joints. The condition is characterized by rapid joint destruction, deformity and painful movement.

The two main causes of RA are gut disturbance and lowered anti-oxidant levels. A gut disturbance can manifest as constipation, Candida overgrowth, parasites, gastritis, or past history of antibiotics or oral contraceptive use. Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis centers around correcting the appropriate underlying cause. In the case of lowered anti-oxidant status, RA is easily corrected with supplementation, diet, and proper oil consumption.

ALETRIS naturopathic physicians investigate the cause of arthritis and customize appropriate treatment for each patient. Call our office to schedule an appointment with an ALETRIS physician.
